The day is here! In a few hours, we will be back on the water, heading for Cape Verde. The atmosphere in Las Palmas Marina where we are moored for more than three weeks has been mounting by the day. Two weeks ago, there was a lot of focus on the bigger repair and maintenance items next to many social activities with boat friends and friends from home. Closer to departure the atmosphere has been more tense, and our friends have walked faster when we meet them on their way from provisioning runs, when preparing to take more crew onboard, or when sorting out smaller boat projects. Last night the pace had slowed considerably on the dock again. A certain calm had spread, and it seemed most crews were excited and felt ready to go.
This is also the feeling onboard Frenesi. We are excited to get going again and to head towards Cape Verde, this African country of islands that marks the first milestone of our Atlantic crossing. Our friends Janne and Fredrik who joined us a few days ago have made a fantastic contribution to both the already good mood and in the preparations.
We have had a great time here in Las Palmas and have managed to sort out a great deal of boatwork as well as meet with many friends from home. We have done our best to see as many of all the Swedish families who have spent their fall school breaks on Gran Canaria and it has been fantastic for all of us and maybe Felix and Jesper in particular to meet some of their best friends from home.
The list of smaller boat projects that we sorted out here is long with items such as replacing a leaking heat exchanger on the diesel generator, sorting out an electrical problem where we had to replace all cables in the aft starboard side, trimming the rig, repairing a few damages in our teak deck, replacing a toilet pump, undertaking the ARC+ safety inspection, replace rivets in some portlights, tightening and greasing the rudder bearing, repairing a broken outboard engine, setting up charts and communications for offshore sailing, a full inspection of the whole boat above and below waterline, and regular service of watermaker, engine, diesel generator, and many other items.
The last week we have immersed fully into the ARC+ program. It is a fantastic experience to join many cruising friends in activities such as sundowner drinks, many seminars on cruising and safety topics, parties, and trips.
Now it is time to get a shower, fill up the water, and to leave the dock in just a few hours. We are excited, and humble and are keeping our fingers crossed that we manage to avoid any significant challenges. The ARC+ fleet including us can be followed on the app YB races. We will continue to broadcast our position on share.garmin.com/frenesi.
